MLK-CDC targets Gun Violence for Fall Community Forum

The Martin Luther King-Community Development Corporation held its Fall Community Forum October 22, at Southern University Shreveport Campus outside in front of the gymnasium. The event was designed to target “Gun Violence” and present the audience with information to deter our youth; from involvement in the gun violence that has plagued our city in the past few weeks.

The presenters following the invocation given by Bishop Andrew Randall, Jr. of Abounding Faith Temple included: City Marshall-Charlie Caldwell, District Attorney-James Stewart, Caddo District Judge – Ramona Emanuel and Special Units from the Shreveport Police Department including Recruiting along with City Councilwoman, Tabatha Taylor in attendance. Participating utilizing one of their caskets were funeral representatives from Heavenly Gates Funeral Home – Bishop Isaac Brooks and Travosia Jones. Each gave information on what happens in the process from an arrest to the presentation in court for a case. Bishop Brooks indicated that the final stop for victims who succumb to gun violence is with the Undertaker. Corporals Cook & Welch from SPD using a suspect from the audience (Mr. Adolphus French) completed an arrest scenario and remanded the suspect into custody through arrest and court procedures. The scenario was followed by the presenters discussing an actual case from arrest warrant served by the city marshal until the case reaches court. Coordinators were Mrs. Sandra Lister Community Oriented Policing Bureau and members of the MLK-CDC assisted by

SUSLA security lead by Lt. Jeff Ivy and Chief Edward Reynolds who helped with logistics.  Mr. & Mrs. William Snow won the grand door prize a 50-inch flat screen smart television. Special thanks to all board members, volunteers and community participants who helped make this event a success.
